• Jim Hayes is one of the foremost suiseki (Japanese for water stone) artists in the country.  His form of art is in the discovery. Hayes has travelled extensively, particularly in the Northern California area looking for stones that rise to the form of suiseki.  Once Hayes has identified stones he believes achieve this desired form, he physically carries these stones sometimes miles from their original spot to his car for transport.  Working closely with Mr. Richard Conrad, the leading daiza carver in the country, Hayes and Conrad develop subtle daizas that emphasize the stone much like a frame would to a painting.  For more information on suiseki stones, you can read Hayes article.
