Black Painted Maple Bannister Back Armchair
Description:
An example of a rare form, this bannister back is adorned with several exciting architectural elements including: acorn finials, an arched crest with carved volutes, fine turnings along the back rails terminating in a bold arched base with large carved volutes. Nicely turned arms are joined to turned stretchers over a rush seat. Vase and ring stretchers join the turned legs over Spanish feet. A red varnish is exposed under the black paint. A real looker for the money!
Materials and Techniques:
Maple with rush seat.
Condition:
The paint appears to have been one in the 20th century. The feet are spliced and the finials are replaced.
